Safe Swimming Made Simple

As an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, I offer a safe and controlled environment for children and infants to learn more than just the basic essential water safety skills, and develop a love for swimming.

With a focus on client-personalized instruction, our private swim coaching sessions are tailored to the individual needs and abilities of each student, ensuring effective learning and progress at their own pace.

If you pair patience with an enthusiastic engaging environment and our skills benchmarking methods, we believe that with time and consistent hard work, we can turn even the most scared child into a “Triple S Swimmer” Smart, Strong, and Safe.

We work hard to make these private swim lessons an enjoyable and rewarding experience, empowering these children to become confident swimmers while instilling a lifelong appreciation for water safety.

What we Provide

“Triple S” Skill Coaching (4-13)

Nurturing Skills, Trust, and Aquatic Intelligence

With our “Triple S” skill coaching we focus on the fundamentals of how to swim Smart, Strong, and Safe. Our ultimate goal is to make private swim lessons an effective and fun experience. When working with young children, their focus is a limited resource that we try to maximize to its fullest potential, capitalizing on moments of engagement and striving to regain it when lost. Keeping younger children engaged for extended periods of time, even as short as 30 minutes up to an hour and a half, can be quite challenging. That's why at every level of the “Triple S” Program, we incorporate games, brain breaks, rewards, and most importantly, provide positive feedback on their effort rather than solely focusing on their progression.

When a child ventures beyond their comfort zone, maintaining their focus can be particularly difficult especially when fear or self-doubt creeps in, often resulting in crying, tantrums, or refusal to participate. That's why our emphasis lies in encouraging their attempts at new skills rather than demanding perfection. We believe that good practice leads to perfection, but we understand that if we can't even get their toes in the water, we cannot force them to learn these skills. This understanding preserves the fundamental basis of trust in the student-coach relationship, which is a crucial aspect of our coaching dynamic.

Earning a child's trust in their coach is challenging, but fostering self-trust is even more arduous. It is essential for the child to know that, regardless of the circumstances, their coach is there to ensure their safety. Through this foundation of trust, children can begin to attempt activities and skills that they would otherwise deem impossible. Many of the skills we teach may appear daunting and complex from a child's perspective. When a child becomes upset or cries, it is often due to uncertainty and fear, thus their brain may associate the skill or activity with danger, prompting them to resist participation as a self-protective response. As coaches, it is vital to respect and understand this perspective. Forcing a child to engage in what they perceive as a "dangerous" activity only reinforces their fear and anxiety, undermining the trust they have in their coach as a lifeline, trusted teacher, and friend.

During these lessons, we empower children to trust themselves and their abilities, nurturing their confidence as swimmers and individuals. Simultaneously, we instill a lifelong appreciation for water safety. By cultivating an enjoyable and supportive atmosphere, we ensure that each child develops the necessary skills while fostering a positive and enduring safe relationship with the water.

Infant Acclimation & Safety (1-4)

Building Self-Confidence and Strong Foundations

When developing our swim lesson curriculum for toddlers, our foremost priority was to create a secure and enjoyable learning environment. We begin by introducing toddlers to the water through engaging activities such as water play, splashing, assisted floating, and partial submersion. These activities help them develop comfort in the aquatic environment.

Our primary focus in teaching water acclimation and safety to toddlers is to encourage them to become comfortable with water on their faces and gradually learn to hold their breath briefly through simple drills and activities. This foundation becomes crucial as toddlers grow older and begin to comprehend more complex swimming techniques. we also highly recommend that they practice these skills with their parents in between lessons to keep the growth consistent and build the strongest foundation possible as we mainly are relying on repetition and comfortability to essentially build a framework of safety instincts for them to rely on.

Ensuring the safety of your infant or very young child is of paramount importance. While we aim for parents to practice with their children without their coach present to feel confident in their child's swimming abilities, we strongly emphasize that a child should never be left unsupervised without a parent or guardian near water. Accidents can happen, and despite their developing water confidence, children may attempt activities beyond their readiness level, potentially placing themselves in danger. We urge the use of caution and attentive supervision whenever a child is near water, as constant monitoring is not always feasible but being present and attentive is the minimum requirement.

By establishing water confidence during the early stages, children can progress more rapidly through higher-level swim coaching curricula. The initial lessons primarily focus on getting the child comfortable with the water and their instructor. When these initial roadblocks have already been overcome, we can more focus on the foundations of safety being built, it allows us to move more swiftly through more advanced skills once the child reaches the appropriate age for more physically and mentally demanding skills.

At Davi Coaching & Consulting, we are dedicated to instilling confidence and building essential foundations in infants and toddlers. Our approach ensures a safe and gradual progression toward advanced swimming techniques. By prioritizing water acclimation and safety, we help infants begin to navigate the water with excitement, comfort and safety.

“I underestimated how hard it would be to get my child to trust themselves in the water, but working with Joseph, the way he breaks down the new skills, they were able to tackle things in a simpler and fun way, preparing them to focus on the hard stuff later.”
